Now again let’s start our fascinating journey of the Plant kingdom with our second family called Palmaceae (now also called the Arecaceae).
Arecaceae is a family of Perennial, flowering plants which come under monocot order of the Arecals.
Their growth can be in the form of climbers, shrubs and tree like form which are commonly known as palms.
The family Palmaceae consists of 181 Genera and with 2,600 known species and they mostly thrive in the tropical and sub-tropical regions.
Most of the palms are recognized by their large evergreen leaves which are Pinnate (Feather shaped ) or Palmate (Fan shaped) shaped also called fronds they are systemically arranged on the top of the palm tree without any branches except the Hyphaene genus.
Like other Monocots Palms don’t have the ability to increase the width of their stem.
Palms show diverse differences in physical properties and have all the possible adaptions according to every habitat where they thrive from rainforests to deserts.
Now let’s discuss the taxonomy of the Palmaceae family.
They come under the clade of Tracheophytes, Angiosperms,Monocots, Commelindis and order of Arecales.
Classification of a few terms like : Commelindis, Arecals
Commelindis- It is a clade of flowering plants within, they are distinguished by their cell walls having ferulic acid.
Arecals- It is order of plants which is well known from a few decades until then the name for the order including the plants of the Arecals was Principes.
Thus this was the interesting and beautiful world of the Pinaceae to Palmaceae.
